South Wall In Front Room
Note the humidity damage to the wall. Mérida gets pretty humid in the summer, which causes the limestone plaster to crack and fall off. This is one of the main things we need to fix in the house.

The front room has black and white pasta tile, a concrete tile made locally.  Pasta tile comes in many different colors and ornate styles.

Outside in the central courtyard, looking back toward the house
The left building, our kitchen, is a recent addition to the house.  It has a much lower ceiling than the rest of the house. We will most likely demolish it.

The old wooden doors in this room are in the classic Mérida style. Panels at the top open to allow breezes while the rest of the door blocks the harsh sun.

Doors in second room from the front
Our house is only 1/2 of what used to be a much larger house.  The boarded up doors beyond lead to the other side.  The pasta tile floors you see here lend a bit of color and texure to the otherwise monotone house.

We did it! We bought this house. And like all good citizens of the 21st century,  we are blogging about the renovation. As you can see from the tree growing out  of the wall, it needs a lot of work.
